I don't any fire ants (yet) but I have used it on regular ants with excellent results. I spread it on a med. sized hill one afternoon, and when I checked it the next afternoon, there were no ants to be seen!
So far, I have applied it to my dogs' coats and left it out for free-choice eating... the flea's are vanishing & they don't seem to mind the taste.

I have been feeding DE for over a year now new fillies are already eating grain with mom and it has DE on it....I haven't talked to Denny as he has been on the road with his halter horses...will try and get with him this coming weekend or next week and see how he likes the results of feeding it to his horses...he had one that is real finicky...as far as putting on ant hills it wont hurt any warm blooded animal...it is being sold in health food stores for human use....thefilly can verify this as her brother has a health food store in Mo....hope this helps ...later Frank

Hey posse,

I just wanted to thank you for telling me about DE. My dogs no longer have a flea problem and its the only thing I'm using to control the fleas. I put it in the yard where they play and haven't seen maybe 3 or 4 fleas in the last 2 months.

Has anyone ever heard of DE causing ulcers in horses? I wouldn't think that it would, as they sell it at Health Food Stores for humans to take. Was just wondering if anyone has heard. Trying to rule out everything different in a mare with some problems.

I love this stuff for fly control. Been feeding it for several months now. I am using it, and the fly predators. The fly predators weren't doing the job by themselves. When I started feeding the DE, it really helped. Also when the mare with problems was fully checked out by the vet, (blood work, fecal, and everything else they could think of), they found ZERO worms. She had been de-wormed with liquid Ivermec only 23 days prior to exam. Worms could have re-infested to some degree in that amount of time.....I can thank the DE for that. ;)

Not me, Melissa. What have you heard? I never even thought about ulcers. Hummmm. The reports I read online all said it was safe for animals to eat, but no breathing of the dust.
My fly problem is a thing of the past, thanks to the DE. I only feed ~1/14 cup daily, sometimes only every other day. Most of the natural wormers recommend only 5 days of treatment/month -not sure why. -But I bet they don't get ride of flies.

You have to make sure that you get the food grade DE not the pool grade DE or you'll kill your livestock!

Just a note on pest control. If you decide to use this method to control insects in your yard....you do need to re-apply after rains. I have noticed a few more fleas on my dogs since we had big rains last week. I re-applied tonight so I'm interested in seeing how long it will take them to die down again.

Has anyone heard of, and or used the "Red Earth" DE?

The ppl that supply my feed store with the DE, changed thier suppliers, so I can no longer get the Perma guard Food Grade DE. They now carry "Red Earth" DE, and looks like a hand full of fine ground reddish clay/dirt. The bag does show it is for animal use... but I would hate to give my horses Sand Colic.

Thanks,
Sandra
