Boy, this can of worms can be lenghty. I have a paint stud named Diamond Snicker. Nicknamed: Snickers. Not related to anything much more than my daughters name Diamond, that lives in CO and Snickers because he always did when I came to the barn. His dad was DJS Gold Mine and mom was Bold Dancing Mist. Bold Dancing Mist, I did not name, her dad was Bold Thomas and mom Dancing Mists Alibi. Nicknamed: Dancer. Sheza Smokin Mist is my yearling filly out of Dancer and her dads name was Heza Centerfold Dzyn. Hence since she is a filly why I named her Sheza, the Mist came from her moms name and Smokin because I think she has that look about her and she's a smokish gray and getting darker as the time goes. Nickname: Sheza Mambo Oso Leo is a filly which her dad was Oso Leo and mom Ms Bandido Mamboleo. Nickname: Mambo. Ms Bandido Mamboleo was named when I bought her from the Wagon Wheel Ranch. Her dad is Thirty Four Leo and mom Miss Sugar Band Leo. When looking down the pedigree the Bandido came from the sire of Miss Sugar Band Leo. Hence Bandido Leo. The Mambo portion came from the dads sire. Hence: Charlie Mambo. Her nickname is Bandi. I have given this mare to my daughter but it's still on my place and her name is CFour Double Perfect. Her dad is HF Perfect Pastime and mom is Moon Chant War Chip. Looking back into her pedigree there's no connection to the CFour or the word Double. Her nickname is Savannah. Indigo Jet Lightning is my black and white pictured on my profile and his dad is Kings Leo Mac and mom is Nifty Sunny Bar. The Indigo part came from the dads dam name which was Taris Indigo. The Jet part has no relation to any pedigree names and neither does Lightning. My truck has him running through water with lighting shooting over his head and he has a white marking that resembles a lightning bolt. Nickname: Lightning Royal King Van Rastus is a sorrel tobiano who's dad is King Van Rustus and mom Katie Do. With names in his pedigree such as his dad's name and SS King Rastus, Rellims Flitbar, Miss Regal, Rellims Best, Salt Dome, Nepal, Buda Lady, he was destined to be called Royal and the rest of his name is the same as his dad. Nicknamed: Royal Dart Vader Bar was named in 88 when star wars was pretty heavy. His dad is Black Bar Pine and mom Missy Amanda. Dart was the marking he had on his nose when born. It was a prominent reddish marking that pointed downwards on his nose. He's a blood bay and turns almost black in the winter after his dad. Vader was taken from the star wars movie. Hence: Dart Vader instead of Darth Vader and Bar in his name came from his dad. I don't think I forgot anyone. I reakon 8 is enough and have two on the way. Quite a accomplishment since I used to have 16.

This is a very interesting topic. Here at the Diamond J Bar B Paints & Quarters, The J stands for Judy and the B is for Bobby, I purchased Bold Dancing Mist a nice mare breed to DJS Gold Mine that was in foal. I named him Snickers because while I was halter breaking him he always snickered. But his two choices were Diamond J bar B # 1 because he was the first colt born on our place after we came up with our ranch name. . And the second choice was Diamond J - B Snickers . So Snickers became his nickname. My Palomino is a golden color and his name was Nugget when I purchased him, Aint no April fools was shorten to April, A black gelding we called him Buck because he Bucked every time you rode him, Gramps was an old retired roping horse, and if rode very hard would become sore and reminded me of an old man so Gramps became his name, Limo was a Paint filly I bought that was as long as a stretched Limo, O So Smooth is a last years filly out of Smooth Rebel and by O So Leo, and at this time has many nicknames,

Court the King - rehabed race horse that is running like the wind in extreme cowboy type competitions now. He is out of Doneraile Court and a Seattle Slew grandson. Won $94,000 on the track at Bay Meadows before he got hurt.

Well, I named my paint stallion Francis Scotch Key...after the man Francis Scott Key who wrote "The Star Spangle Banner". I named him that because I wanted to name him after someone famous and because his sire is Scotch bar Tommy....I thought the two names worked well together. He has several barn names...Scottie, Scottman and Muffin(after stud muffin) to name a few. He's been called other names of which I can't mention here...LOL. Of course to go along with the name we have the whole red, white and blue....stars and stripes theme. Actually the inside of my LQ horse trailer is decorated in stars and stripes. My 4 yr old solid paint mares name is Vested Gold. I did not name her...but she is by Zippos Old Gold and she goes back to the Investor on her mommas' side. Her barn name is Puddin cause she looks like she's never missed a meal(especially pudding)..LOL. My 15 yr old paint mares name is Stormy Dumpling...I didn't name her either...she goes back to Yellow Mount..and her barn name is Stormy...boring I know...not much of a story behind her.

I have two right now...not from the same lines and one is APHA and one is AQHA... Harlans Spooky Dude (my baby) because he has such a Big Guy heart his barn name is Biggs. AQHA Skipper Tuff Dude(daughters baby)He is a handsome guy and KNOWS it, his barn name is Ace. APHA Horse names always just kind of evolve for me as I get to know them as colts...I have never "named" one (other than the reg name)they always just kinda "happen".

My buckskin mare's registered name is Reflection of Spirit, out of Dun Up Reflection. The prior owners called her Betty. I thought Betty was a little to plain, I usually dont change a horses ranch name, so I call her BettyBoop. Its funny who you run into, coincidentally, the people who I bought her from is the Director of Equestrian Nation on RFD-TV and owners of the MikMar Bit Company. They used BettyBoop in a commercial for Alamo Saddlery.
